So what is the Infrared?

The infrared is an electromagnetic wave with the same nature as the radio waves and the visible light. The infrared wavelength is between 0.76 and 100 μm, and the infrared radiation can be divided into 4 types according to the infrared wavelength range :  near-infrared, mid-infrared, far-infrared. The infrared radiation is one of the most widespread electromagnetic radiations in nature.  The molecules and atoms constantly produce and  radiate out the thermal infrared energy by the random movement. More intense the movement is,  greater the  radiation energy will be, conversely, smaller the radiation energy will be.

All objects with the absolute temperature above -273.15K° will radiate the infrared rays to the surrounding space due to their own molecular motion. And the relationship among the infrared radiation energy of the object, the surface temperature distribution, and the wavelength is very close. Firstly, the infrared radiation detector converts the power signal radiated by the object into the electrical signal (measurement of the infrared energy emitted by the object itself); next, the surface temperature of the object can be accurately measured(or the output signal of the imaging device can be completely obtained); then, the  surface temperature spatial distribution of the scanned object will be simulated, processed by the electronic system, and transmitted to the display screen; finally, the corresponding thermal image to the thermal distribution of the object surface will be obtained. Using this method, we can achieve the long-distance thermal state image imaging, temperature measurement, and the analysis and judgment of the target; which is the basic principle of the infrared radiation detection. 

The applications of the Infrared Detection Technology

The infrared detection (the infrared diagnosis technology) is an on-line monitoring detection technology. In order to accurately determine the temperature distribution of the surface of the object, the infrared detection device integrates the photoelectric imaging technology, computer technology, and image processing technology; and displays the thermal image on a fluorescent screen by receiving the infrared rays (infrared radiation) emitted by the object. And this infrared detection technology has the advantages of being accurate, real-time, fast and so on. The infrared detection technology can precisely absorb the infrared radiation energy, measure the temperature and temperature distribution of the device  surface, and judge the heating condition of the device. Therefore, there are many test equipments that use the infrared detection technology appeared at present, such as the infrared thermometers, infrared thermal televisions, infrared thermal imagers, and so on. And the infrared thermal imaging systems have been widely used in the power, firefighting, petrochemical, and medical applications.
