Application, difference and advantage analysis of digital camera and analog camera in vehicle real-time monitoring project

July 07, 2022

In the vehicle Real-time monitoring project, the Vehicle Camera needs to be pushed to the streaming media server live/on-demand platform for streaming transcoding distribution. Regarding Car Cameras, generally the cameras we contact are mainly digital cameras. However, based on their actual application scenarios, car cameras may not necessarily be digital cameras, but analog cameras. Is the connection method of Analog Camera and digital camera the same? What is the difference between the two before? Whose advantage is more obvious?

The differences between digital cameras and webcams are mainly as follows:
First: Clarity
Seeing more clearly is the goal pursued by every user and the ultimate mission of the security industry. However, the current resolution of Network Cameras and analog cameras is not on the same level.
Digital camera: At present, the Network Camera can reach the image output of 1 million, 2 million, 5 million or even 10 million pixels.
Analog camera: At present, analog cameras can only output images of CIF and D1.

Second: the management of monitoring
Digital cameras have built-in WEB, and images can be managed and viewed using a standard WEB browser on a PC. At the same time, the digital camera can also realize remote management and image viewing, and store the image data on the remote hard disk, which is easy to search and store, and will not be damaged.
Analog cameras are relatively closed systems that can only be monitored internally, not remotely. Video data can only be stored locally and cannot be viewed remotely, which is easily damaged by criminals.

Third: Integration
The digital camera has a built-in operating system. Using a standard WEB browser on any PC, you can manage and view images, and can be shared with multi-screen management software to achieve multi-channel monitoring, and the number of channels is unlimited. Does not increase the cost of hardware.
The analog camera needs to be connected to the MDVR, and the number of MDVR channels is limited. After the DVR is full, adding cameras will also increase the hardware cost.

Fourth: the installation of the camera
Digital cameras simply connect them to the nearest network and assign them an IP address. It can use the existing network as a transmission platform, without the need for wiring.
Analog cameras require coaxial cables to be connected to each camera and to the control platform, recording equipment, and display equipment. Rewiring is required for each additional channel, and there is no existing network to take advantage of.

Fifth: the realization of remote monitoring
Digital cameras can be managed remotely, such as recording settings, PTZ control, alarm settings, two-way intercom, upgrade management and other functions.
Analog cameras can only be managed by viewing images locally.

Sixth: Extensibility
Digital cameras make it easy to add more network cameras to the system.
Analog camera extensions work very hard, each analog camera requires a dedicated cable, which affects image quality when long cables are used.

Analog camera and digital camera connection method
If the digital camera has the function of pushing the stream, it can directly push the stream to the live/on-demand platform of the streaming media server without going through the hardware device.
Because the analog camera transmits images, it needs to be connected to the DVR, and the streaming components are integrated through the DVR, and then the streaming is pushed to the live/on-demand platform of the streaming media server, and a hardware device needs to be added in the middle.

The advantages of analog cameras and digital cameras
In terms of advantages, digital cameras have more advantages in terms of image quality, clarity and deployment difficulty, but the use of cameras also needs to be determined based on on-site needs.
